Sincuidados is a distinctive gated desert community located in North Scottsdale. It is distinct because we attempt to keep the Sonoran Desert environment by retaining as much of the desert landscape as possible and by maintaining a living environment free of noise, visual and light pollution.
Our unique environment provides a natural sense of wonder and serenity. We have access to more than 100 acres of hiking trails inside our community as part of the Sincuidados Community Lone Mountain Preserve. We also have 30,000 acres of City of Scottsdale McDowell Sonoran Preserve across the street from our main entrance. For a change of pace, there are nearby shopping areas. And, for those who enjoy the art scene, Carefree, Arizona is minutes away, along with its neighboring town of Cave Creek for a western flair. Both towns offer a variety of festivals and a restaurant scene for the foodie in you.
Sincuidados’ design won an award for the way it blended with the desert. The adobe perimeter wall was originally designed to flow with the land so that it appeared to be, in fact, part of the landscape. One of the first homes constructed was designed by the prominent artist-builder, Bill Tull, a design show house in 1988.
The history of this community is unique and fascinating. It involves H. B. Wallace, businessman, philanthropist and son of Henry A. Wallace who served as Vice President of the United States for President Franklin Roosevelt during World War II. H. B. and Jocelyn Wallace completed their earliest residence in 1987. They purchased the Phase IV properties, developed walking trails, and placed the property under conservation easement protection. Wallace learned to love cactus and created a lovely garden containing rare cactus. It became known in the community as Wallace Desert Gardens. Touring the garden of some 9,000 desert plants (consisting of 2000 varieties of plants) would take approximately two hours.
Eventually, the Wallace Foundation found it necessary to move the collection and reached an agreement with Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Wallace’s lovely and unique Desert Garden can now be found 75 miles away from its original home in Sincuidados. Thousands of plants from the collection now reside on over 15 acres of land in the state park.
